A Bookish Guide to Greenpoint, Brooklyn
Looking for a Brooklyn neighborhood to walk around and explore? Might I recommend Greenpoint, Brooklyn!
Located at the northernmost tip of Brooklyn lies the neighborhood of Greenpoint. It is a vibrant community with a long history of industry but also artists.
You can reach it on the G train or the ferry from Manhattan. And I promise, it’s worth the trek!
From the six indie bookstores, plenty of yummy restaurants, and so many cute places to shop- here is my guide to a great day spent in Greenpoint.

The Bookstores of Greenpoint
From a classic indie full of new titles to one of the best used bookstores in New York, from a graphic design company that sells books to a man who sells art books and magazines out of his house- there are plenty of options for readers in Greenpoint!
The sign that greets you entering Clown Show Prison Books and Fine Objects
Clown Show Prison Books and Fine Objects | 100 Freeman St, Brooklyn, NY 11222
Maybe one of the coolest bookstores I have been to in nyc. Don't let the unique name scare you away- this hidden gem of a bookstore is still very approachable for all readers and they have a great collection with something for everyone!
High Valley Books | 882 Lorimer St, Brooklyn, NY 11222
For the artsy book collectors this is a wonderland. They also have a basement full of neatly organized magazines through the decades. Make sure to message their instagram to confirm that they are taking appointments!
My friends perusing the stacks at leaves

I try not to pick favorites, but this one is definitely at the top of my list. They have a variety of books from simple mass market paperbacks to rare and vintage books. There is something at every price point for everyone. This is highly recommended by me and I can’t wait to bring more people to check it out!
Polonia Book Store | 882 Manhattan Ave, Brooklyn, NY 11222
This is the place to go if you are looking for books in Polish! Greenpoint is home to a thriving Polish community and this bookstore provides them with books in their native language. They also sell other Polish items as well as fun gifts.
Standards Manual | 212 Franklin St, Brooklyn, NY 11222
This is part bookstore, part design studio, and part gallery for beautifully designed books and other printed items. The selection is small and is comprised of in-house made items that function more like works of art. This is not a place to buy your next novel, but still a great place to visit on a crawl to see some unique pieces.
Where to Eat
There are a lot of places to try in NYC and it can be overwhelming. This list are all the places I have personally tried and would recommend.
Their raw fruit whips are viral for a reason! So yum!

Local products and sold along with handmade sandwiches and drinks. I tried one of the top sellers- the roast beef sandwich and wow was it delicious!
Happy Zoe Vegan Bakery | 102 B Nassau Ave, Brooklyn, NY 11222

Jubilee Marketplace (Supermarket) | 145 West St Floor 1, Brooklyn, NY 11222
No where else in NYC can you find a double cheeseburger for $3.75. This wild price gets one of the best burgers in the city. It is also a grocery store where you can find plenty of good quality products at a low cost. Make sure to use cash to help them save on the credit card fees!
Kettl Tea - Greenpoint | 70 Greenpoint Ave Ground Floor, Brooklyn, NY 11222
If you enjoy matcha then you have to visit this spot! They are the only place in the world outside of Japan where you can purchase certain types of matcha. They take their craft very seriously and it shows in the quality of the product.
Reading at Pairing with friends!
Pairing | 67 Driggs Ave # 7, Brooklyn, NY 11222
A cozy cafe and flower shop- serving up yummy pastries and bouquet along with matcha and other drinks. One of my favorite spaces to sit and read and I always add it to my visit to Greenpoint!
Peter Pan Donut & Pastry Shop | 727 Manhattan Ave, Brooklyn, NY 11222
This classic bakery has been serving the community for decades. A great place to try a New York Classic- egg creams (don’t worry there is no actual egg in an egg cream). It is also made famous from the most recent SpiderMan franchise- it’s where MJ works in the films!
Taqueria Ramirez | 94 Franklin St, Brooklyn, NY 11222
One of the best spots for tacos in Brooklyn (and I know this since I have sampled many of them!) The line can be long but it moves fasts. Their menu may be small, but everything is delicious!
